Connecticut partnering with R.I. and Mass. for future wind power projects

October 10, 2023

Connecticut officials on Wednesday announced an agreement with their counterparts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to launch a joint effort to procure new wind power contracts for their respective states.

The memorandum of understanding between the three states comes as wind power project developers already under contract to them are seeking to terminate those contracts, which the companies say are no longer economically feasible. Katie Dykes, the commissioner of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protecting, told CT Insider that coordinating their respective efforts will improve the chances of all three state getting new wind power development proposal that are cost effective and can be completed in a timely manner.

The memorandum of understanding was announced Wednesday at a wind power conference in Boston. The agreement between the three states is the first of its kind in the United States, according to state officials.
