Vineyard Wind Offshore Project Approaches 30% Power Output

July 25, 2025

As of late July 2025, the Vineyard Wind offshore wind farm has ramped up electricity production from 17 turbines, delivering about 220 MW—roughly 27% of its planned 800‑megawatt capacity—to the Massachusetts grid. That’s enough to power over 100,000 homes. Project developers say they expect to reach 30% output by the end of the month and achieve full commercial operation (COD) before year’s end.

Construction activity this summer has been particularly visible at the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal, where component shipments have accelerated. Satellite imagery and investor reports indicate that about 40 of the planned 62 turbines are now offshore, with approximately half of those already fully installed—or awaiting final blade or nacelle assembly.

Despite prior setbacks, including a blade failure last summer that prompted federal safety investigations and blade replacements, the project is now advancing smoothly. Developers confirmed that safety remains the top priority as construction and commissioning continue on schedule. Installation plans include finishing remaining turbines before winter and pressing toward full project completion by the end of 2025.
