The utility regulators in Rhode Island have approved National Grid to increase natural gas rates in the state following the COVID-19 economic impacts of $30.7M. However, only half of the impact ($15.35M) will be transferred to ratepayers at first, and the rest will be deferred. On average instead of an average payment increase of $97 over the next 12 months for gas, average homeowners will pay $48 more, while low-income households around $35.

There is no information yet on how and when customers will pay the remaining $15.35M, but National Grid has to release this plan by May 1st 2021.
