Massachusetts Gives Developers of Offshore Wind Farm a Mid-Week Deadline by Refusing to Renegotiate Agreements

November 8, 2022

Commonwealth Wind and Mayflower Wind have each been given a deadline of the middle of this week to inform the Department of Public Utilities if they will move forward with their offshore wind farm projects under the contract terms they have already agreed to or ask state regulators to no longer consider those essential agreements.

On Friday, the DPU made the decision that the Commonwealth Wind project is “no longer viable and would not be able to move forward” unless changes are made to the contracts between the developers and Massachusetts utility companies.

Massachusetts is hoping to rely on offshore wind to be a significant source of energy for the state looking forward, so it is crucial for these two sides to find common ground so the development of these wind farms can move forward.
